It is very important that you provide clear, legible copy assembled in the order that you wish it to appear in your brochure. Failure to do so
can result in misplaced or incorrect copy in your brochure. Another undesirable result is unnecessary proof cycles, which endangers both the quality of your brochure (as deadline pressures increase) and the printing and shipping schedules required to meet your needs.
The following guidelines are provided to help you through this process. Remember, we want you to have the best-looking, most successful brochure possible.
- Type or clearly print all copy. Copy should be complete and in the order it will appear in the brochure.
- Check copy for correct grammar and spelling. If your computer program offers a spell check tool, take advantage of it.
- Write your copy as you wish it to appear in the finished product. For example, do not write in all capitals unless you wish that particular
word to be all capitals in the brochure.
- If you would like certain sections of the copy to be associated with particular photos, make a note of this.
Display Copy
Carefully check the accuracy of your display copy (dates, times, phonenumbers, etc.), and include it only once in your submitted copy. Duplicating this information (by writing it in several places on your layout, for example) can lead to inconsistencies and errors.
Inventory Listings
Please write the listing for each item in the same order: quantity, year, brand name, model number/name, item, description of features large to small), serial number.
Captions
Write photo captions on a separate sheet. Label captions with letters or numbers corresponding to the appropriate photos. For consistency, be sure to check your captions against the rest of your copy.
How to Designate Copy Positions in the Rough Layout
During the markup of your rough layout, please indicate where the text needs to go. Mock-up your layout so that it looks like the desired finished product. Submit copy on a separate sheet of paper, marking each section with a letter. (See right.) Then mark up the rough layout with where you would like the copy to go. |
